Lip Service Returns

The return of Lip Service

A brand much loved by trad goths, Lip Service recently announced its return to the fashion world, and in honor of its late founder, Drew Bernstein, the store is featuring the iconic Lip Service dagger motif in its first collection. It's important to note that the bulk of the store's inventory is currently vintage. There are a handful of new printed items available featuring the dagger, but the majority of the catalog's eye-catching display are single sized vintage items. It's a small start but it's a step in the right direction and the reception has been tremendous with items being sold off in a single day. 

This leaves us asking a lot of questions, like what does the future hold for Lip Service? With the obvious desirability of these vintage designs, I tend to wonder if re-releasing the classics will be their first step. I mean, I've looked at that pvc dress about a hundred times since receiving their newsletter and even though it's sold out it doesn't stop me from wanting it.

We've already seen some other brands borrowing from trends of the past but Lip Service pioneered a lot of those trends! It has such a tremendous history to pull from. That being said, because Lip Service is a brand known for trendsetting I am equally interested in seeing what new creations they can come up with. It's exciting to say the least.

What are your thoughts?



  1. I was hoping for a grand return, not this. The fact that they just vanished for a year with no announcement and you couldn't even email customer service *while the sites were running* tells you a lot. I don't trust them anymore. These offerings were terrible too. Maybe they should hire some designers instead of having an Etsy store

    1. I really like the fact that they include vintage, however, I was disappointed that they included those items in the men's and women's apparel categories. I feel they should be kept separate, in their own category, so a customer doesn't wander in and think it's available in their size. I think most of their vintage is small-medium only.

      As far as I can tell the only new products are a few printed items, like stockings, which is anemic at best. I was hoping that all these great products in the photos *were* the new stock!

      I can only surmise that they couldn't wait to reopen shop any longer. Their prolonged absence hurt their image, the way they handled (or didn't handle) customer complaints involving credits/gift cards was a huge mistake on their part; it looks as though they're scrambling to get back online and to recover their image. Their meager offerings of vintage stock and a handful of accessories are probably the result of poor planning. The vintage products bulk up the inventory and make it appear as though they've got their shit together, when in reality they only had a few items to offer.

      I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and waiting to see what the future holds. I can't imagine transferring the company/brand was an easy process, especially if it went to someone who has no freaking clue as to what they're doing. They will have to do a lot of work to rebuild those damaged relationships on social media and regain interests in a brand that most everyone thought had died or been sold off to Iron Fist or Killstar, or whatever label it was rumored to be.

    2. Yeah you hit the nail on the head, said it much better than I did. The whole rollout was so half-baked. Really a shame for such an eager and loyal base

    3. Half baked is truly the best description for it! It confounds me because Drew's other design labels aren't doing too badly (with the exception of Kill City, it seems like Iron Fist squandered its potential). 24 Hours is still functional as is Widow, so why the hell has it been so hard for Lip Service to get active??
