Home Again

I wanted to let my readers know that I am back from my vacation! I had a lot of fun while I was out, I went fishing and shopping and all that good stuff. Unfortunately the weather up in the Bayfield area fluctuates like crazy and it went from something like 29°C to 16°C! One day it felt like summer and the next it felt like fall. We're having a colder summer than usual and sadly that means the water hasn't had a chance to really warm up, so on the days when it's exhaustingly humid the water is still too cold to go swimming in. Perhaps it will improve by August but who knows! The photograph above is stock, I didn't get a good picture while I was out because it was mostly overcast and raining, but if you look to the end of that pier you'll see where I was fishing. I had a lot of bites but I didn't catch a thing! I had more luck fishing offsite at a pond near my parent's trailer.

This is not the 90's

You know what grinds me?

When people say something that just isn't true. Lately, I've been hearing a lot of untruthful things. I've heard a lot of bull shit and it's safe to say the "90's fad" is the worst of them. Yes, I've loathed this fashion "movement" for some time now. I don't know who started it, but I wish I did... I can't stand these failed attempts to portray 90's fashion; these garments, these "styles" are not the 90's.

Demonia Shoe Review

Are they worth it?

Whether you're goth, punk or alternative you've likely heard of the Demonia brand shoes. They boast a wide collection of footwear, ranging from boots to creepers to Mary-Jane pumps. There literally is something for everybody, but are any of them actually worth it? Demonia shoes often command a high price tag, especially their boots. What are we looking at in terms of longevity and quality? Are they worth spending the extra bit of money on? Here's my experience...

Thoughts of Cats and Art

Hello friends! I have some good news about my life that I would like to share with you today. : )

My fiancé and I have decided to become foster parents for cats! After the loss of our cat Milo, we began contemplating what we could do to honor him and make a difference in the world. I'm passionate about helping animals and fostering has been in the forefront of my mind for a few months now. I realized it's the right time. We have arranged to take on another cat who will be coming home with us soon. I'm keeping a blog diary for each cat that comes into our foster care. If you're a fellow cat lover and are interested in my foster adventures you can follow the blog here.

Another piece of good news is that I've become inspired! One morning, I awoke with the urgency to get back into making art. I haven't felt compelled to do this in ages. I recently graduated with a bachelors in visual arts but I haven't been able to find work within my city (not even basic retail work), there's been a terrible job shortage here. I decided I would take action and make work for myself. I'm going to open an Etsy shop and sell my artwork! : ) I will also be selling in consignment shops but most of my work will be sold through Etsy. I realize that this is going to be difficult but I am hopeful and driven. I plan on specializing in folk art which is a passion of mine. I'm working right now on developing my brand and writing up a plan. I'm very excited about this and I hope to share my art with everyone very soon.

I want to assure you that I will still post about fashion relevant material here!! I am working on a Gothic pattern review and as usual I will have some upcoming posts about alternative fashion. I also have a Demonia review in the works. The function of this blog will not change.

I'm not sure if I'll share my artwork on here or develop a new blog for it (I kind of dread the idea of making another blog, three is a lot already). As my reader, do you think I should share my art here or start a new blog???

Also, my apologies if this is an inconvenience, but I jacked my comment moderation up to "always" after receiving a spam bot comment (on both my blogs, which I Googled and found on something like a hundred other blogs). I felt things were getting schemey when I had bizarre hits showing up in my site statistics. So again, there will be minor delays when your comments await moderation but I hope this does not deter you from commenting here! I try to encourage conversation between me and you because I want to hear from you. I love getting to know you!! So please don't be shy.

That's all for now! Thanks for stopping by.

Kind regards,

How to make design dreams a reality

How can I sew my own clothing designs?

If you're like me you love to sew your own clothing, it's a creative outlet that affords you a sense of individuality. There is nothing more satisfying than designing your own clothes, but how do you get started? Many of us shrivel in horror at the thought of pattern drafting. I have read a few books and online discussions on the subject of pattern drafting. At best, I understand you use a sloper and modify it to suit your design needs. There are obviously some mathematics involved, which I also shy away from as I am somewhat dyslexic and abhor math. Many people have the benefit of taking classes on pattern drafting, the only one available here is at a local college. I would love to take it but I'm not terribly interested in returning to post secondary school for another four years, further increasing my student debt. I will continue to scour the internet for pattern drafting tips and tutorials and hopefully one day I will be able to share that information with you, for now I have the second best approach to designing your own clothes.
